Digital ILMs for Students Update - August 18, 2020

The ILM office has completed the process of creating the standard digital ILM packages.

  • Campus eBookstore:  All standard packages are now available on the Campus eBookstore platform for bookstores and campus retailers to adopt into their systems.
  • RedShelf:  There is a slight delay in getting the digital ILM packages uploaded into the RedShelf platform.  We are working in collaboration with RedShelf to make the digital ILMs available in their system as soon as possible.  We will provide a status update for digital ILM availability in RedShelf by Friday, August 21st.

Custom Packages and French Packages

The ILM team will continue working on the custom package requests over the next few days and hope to have all custom requests completed by Friday, August 21st.  If your institution would like to make custom ILM packages available to your programs and students, please complete and submit the Digital ILM Custom Package Request Form

We will also be finalizing the standard French module packages and will begin making those available over the course of this week and next week.

Digital ILM Information Page

There is a new Digital ILM page on our website where we will provide information and ongoing updates for digital ILMs.  We have included some general information as well as some Frequently Asked Questions.  We encourage you to check it out!

Information Session

The ILM team is planning to hold an online Digital ILM general information session next Tuesday, August 25th at 10:00am (MDT).  Meeting information will be sent to those on our contact and distribution lists shortly.  If you are not currently on our contact lists and would like more information, please contact us at ilm@nait.ca.  This information session will be open to all attendees.

Digital ILMs for Students UPDATE- july 24, 2020

The ILM team is well into the implementation process of the digital ILM option.  First and foremost, we want to thank you for your patience during this implementation.  We know the fall student intakes are quickly approaching, and we are working as quickly as possible to finalize the process and to make digital ILMs available for purchase.

Digital ILM Distribution

As explained in the previous update (July 7), digital ILMs will be provided on a 3rd party platform for institutional and student access.  Digital ILMs will be made available via multiple digital content distribution vendors, rather than just one, in order to provide increased access to the digital ILM option.  For those institutions that would like to make the digital ILM option available for students, the campus retailer/bookstore has the option to connect to either Campus eBookstore or RedShelf.  Many ILM sales locations are already connected to one, or both, of these systems.  If your institution does not currently utilize either of these platforms for distribution of digital course content, you can find more information using the following links:

The ILM team is in the process of preparing and uploading the ILMs to these vendor platforms, and we anticipate ILMs will be available within these systems by August 7th.

For institutions and students in the province of British Columbia, the ILM office is also working closely with the B.C. Crown Publications team to determine if the digital ILM option can be made available through the B.C. Crown Publications site, in addition to Campus eBookstore and RedShelf.

Digital ILM Standard Packages

The ILM office will be making both single ILMs and standard ILM Packages available on the vendor platforms.  Standard ILM packages will include the modules, as listed for each Period package, on the ILM website.  For the standard packages that include multiple modules, the ILM office will be creating a single file that includes all modules within each package.  This means there is only one resource link that needs to be purchased and provided (rather than creating a separate resource for each module).  Please visit the Order Modules page (login required) as reference for which modules are included in each of the standard package module lists.

Custom Bundle Packages

The ILM office recognizes that many institutions and programs use a customized set of modules for training and may require modules that are not typically included in the standard package sets.  We are in the process of finalizing a custom package request form that will allow institutions to provide lists of custom module sets.  The ILM team will then require 3-5 business days to process these requests and to make the custom package available on the vendor platforms.  We will do our best to ensure all custom bundle requests are processed and made available for ordering as soon as possible.  As with standard packages, all ILMs that are to be included in a custom bundle package will be combined into a single file to simplify purchase and access.

Please contact us at ilm@nait.ca with any questions.

Digital ILMs for Students UPDATE- july 7, 2020

Following the previous communication at the end of April, the ILM team would like to provide an update regarding the status and availability of a digital ILM option for students.  Over the past two months the ILM team has investigated and reviewed potential options to provide students with an option to purchase ILMs in a digital format for apprenticeship programs and courses beginning in September 2020.  We have also engaged with stakeholders to gather feedback and better understand requirements and constraints.  Following this review, the ILM team would like to confirm that we will be moving forward with implementation of a digital ILM option for students for September 2020.

Digital ILMs for students will not be made available directly through the ILM office.  Instead, we will be collaborating with a 3rd party vendor to provide the digital ILMs on a platform where students can access the content online.  The intent is to maintain consistency with the current process for purchase of print ILMs, and for the purchase of the digital ILMs to remain with the student's post-secondary bookstore or campus retailer.  Following the purchase, students will then be able to access the digital content on the vendor platform.

The ILM office is still finalizing details and will share more information shortly on the selected vendor platform and what institutions (programs, instructors and bookstores) need to do if they would like to offer the digital ILM option to their students.

The intent of the implementation of the digital ILM option is to minimize disruption as much as possible.  We understand this is a difficult time for students, instructors and institutions.  We also understand there are still many unknowns regarding fall programs and student intakes for this fall.  As we move forward with the implementation of the digital ILM option, we will do our best to keep everyone informed and will continue to share information as it becomes available.

Please contact us at ilm@nait.ca with any questions.

Digital ILMs for Instructors and Students - April 22, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused massive disruption in the delivery of educationhow instructors are expected to teach their students and how students are expected to learn, both in the immediate future and long-term.  This disruption has presented the ILM office with a unique opportunity to provide support to instructors and students during this time of change.  The ILM Office is excited to announce that we will be offering a new option for ILMs, a digital option, in addition to the current print format.

Digital ILMs for Instructors

Providing digital versions of ILMs to instructors in the immediate future will support online instruction that is currently happening at institutions across Alberta and Canada, and it will support instructors in their efforts to shift to online instruction, where possible.  Please contact the ILM Office, ilm@nait.ca, for more information on accessing digital ILMs for instructors.

Digital ILMs for Students

The ILM office is currently investigating options on how best to provide students with a digital option for ILMs, and will be engaging with the ILM community in the coming weeks to identify solutions that can be implemented quickly and efficiently while still maintaining educational quality.  The target date for this solution is still to be determined.

Print ILMs

The infrastructure, processes and supports to provide both students and instructors with print copies of ILMs are still available.  Instructors, students, institutions and training providers can continue to order print copies of ILMs as they have in the past.
