Comment: Figure two is the wrong figure to match the text on pg 6. It also is identical to fig 4. And as such, they both have the same sizing error, being the piece of pipe between the water closet and the bathtub. It should be 2" (not 3").

Comment: top of page #6 Alberta amendments ended in 2017. This from Alberta Codes and Standards webpage: National Plumbing Code of Canada 2015: Declared in force on January 1, 2017 According to the current NPC, there is no restriction on tying the clothes washer trap arm to the same riser as the laundry tray. It could read like below: **The minimum size of a drain serving a clothes washer is 2" according to NPC Table 2.4.9.3 NPC Article 2.4.2.1 (4) outlines restrictions when there a change of direction more than 45° and there is more than one clothes washer on a soil or waste pipe. NPC Article 2.4.5.1 (5) states that: Where a vent pipe is connected into the suds pressure zone as referred to in sentence (4), it should not have any other vent tie within the height of the suds pressure zone. Refer to Note A-2.4.2.1 (4).**

Comment: #13 Text does not match the illustration in Figure 5. Figure 5 clearly has a floor drain wet vented through the Laundry Tray. Not vented through the building drain as the text states. I would suggest fixing the drawing to match the text. We had a drawing that matched that text in older versions of the ILMs'. The most recent past versions had this same error.

Comment: pages 15 to 18 have the sizing for figure 6, however the sizing text doesn't completely align with the illustration in Figure 6. The numbers on the illustration don't align with the numbers in the description. What the text and numbering does match is the illustration from the old modules, specifically figure 16 from 060201d version 21.

Comment: #28 see my previous comment about mismatched illustration, but in any regard, in #28 it incorrectly states that the wet vent will be 1-1/2" It clearly states that it will be wet venting the water closet, so therefore, according to NPC Table 2.5.8.1, a 2" wet vent will be the minimum required.

Comment: Figure 20 on page 33 shows an illustration of a p-trap with 50 mm of water column (25 up / 25 down). It should show 12.5 down/12.5 up to indicate 25mm of pressure. The text beside the illustration is correct as the code states that 25mm of water column is required for a final test. Article 2.3.3.6 (1)e.

Comment: Item "Q" is wrong. The arrow for "Q" in Figure 12 (pg 21) points to the "Trap Arm for the Water Closet" which would be 3". So I recommend to either change the text for "Q" -OR- move the arrow for "Q" on Figure 12 to point to the wet vent location between Lav/Bath and WC trap arms.

Comment: A FFRT for appliances up to 400 MBH is stated in the ILM as 180 seconds; in the B149.3 it clearly states that the FFRT should be 90 seconds. To compound this it has been several code renditions that this was changed. As this would likely be a really good exam question - it poses a dilemma for the students: answer it according to code or the mis-statement in the ILM.

Comment: Figure 20 where it says "Damage may occur" should now say, "Damage now won't occur". This figure has added an anchor close to the elbow next to the wall, and with the 2" of space between the piping and the wall will avoid the potential damage as illustrated in Figure 19.

Comment: Last sentence on page 15 states that minimum pressure is 50 kPag to ensure minimal operation of fixtures. I am not sure why this number is in there or where it came from. The code (NPC) clearly states in 2.6.3.4 (5)b that minimum water pressure is 200 kPa which is roughly 30 psi (29 actually).

Comment: bottom of page #13 incorrectly states that the floor drain has no vent and so must be 3". The floor drain is wet vented through the laundry tray and upstairs sink (I don't really think that it is a "kitchen sink", but inconsequential as far as exercise is concerned) as stated in #8 and as evidenced in Figure 18.

Comment: Number 13 at bottom of page, referring to Figure 15, states that the floor drain is vented through the building drain and so must be 3". In fact, the floor drain is wet vented through pipe #8, as stated in #8 and as is evident in Figure 15, so could be reduced to 2" in size.

Comment: Objective Six Exercise does not meet the definition of an exercise. Although it could be the answer to an exercise, if the exercise was to use the NPC to look up and define the various articles and tables as listed there; such as: 1) Article 2.5.2.1 describes what? 2) Article 2.5.7.1 describes what? 3) Table 2.5.7.1 lists what? ... and so on.

Comment: Question 9 in the self test, I think, should use 305 mm for the rough-in measurement for the water closet. It appears by the answer on pg 26, that 300 is being used as a approximation (or 'soft conversion') of 12 in. to mm. The rough-in measurement as per Crane would be 305mm. If 300mm is what we want to use, then it should be given in the question as the rough-in measurement to use. This would save frustration. My math for the question is : 5285 + 2130 + 1645 = 9060 – (70 + 305 + 12.7) = 8672.3 Using 300 for the rough-in would make my answer agree with the book (8677.3 mm).

Comment: Figure 38, Answers for Exercise 3, Question 11 North Arrow is pointing in the wrong direction. In order to be correct, the drawing has to spin to the correct orientation (stack to the North), or an easier fix is to switch the North Arrow to point Down and to the Right.

Comment: We need to remove the percent (%) from the TEL equation, or change the factor from 1.5 to 150, however 1.5 is the common method, (multiply by one and a half...is what has been commonly taught for 30+ years) 130 x 1.5% is not equal to 195 so then it should read at the bottom of the page: Total length of pipe x fitting allowance factor (1.5) = TEL (total equivalent length)
